On a guitar tab what do the numbers on the lines mean?

Question:im gettin it from www.ultimate-guitar.com i just dont understand what the numbers stand for i get the chord names just not the numbers!

Answers:
Each line represents a string on your guitar. Each number represents the location on a specific string on the guitars grid. Therefore, Gb|--7 for example is the 3rd string on the 7th box - so about the middle of the guitar neck. Enjoy!
The lines are called FRETS.
The numbers are the fret you play. it has the string and then the line and then the number fret and the go they way so you know which one is next.
those are the fingers you should use to depress that particular string.if you are trying to learn some stuff on guitar.use youtube...there are some pretty cool video lesson clips on there...for example.

wait...on that site..the numbers represent the fret to press the string down in.
as per previous answer, each number relates to one finger on that string in the numbered fret. It is important to note that tabs show no indication of which finger to play the note with and only a bare sense of timing, if any at all. Best of luck!
Tabulature tells you
a) which string
b) which fret
c) which finger
So which ever one of those three you're not getting, is what the number is telling you.
