You don't have to state your major right away, and shouldn't. Go to the library and get some college guidebooks such as the Princeton guide and Peterson's. Use these books to determine 5 universities or colleges that meet the criteria you want: a good pre-med program and a good music program. Other criteria you should look at include:
Location (How far away from home? Climate? Weather? Seasons? Big city or small town? Beach or mountains?)
Size of the school (Smaller program or huge state university?)
Philosophy and environment of the school (Conservative or liberal? Religious or secular?)
Financial questions (Cost per year? Scholarships and/or endowments? Percentage of students who are awarded financial aid through the school?)
Selectivity and student demographics (Highly academic or party school? GPA or SAT score needed for admission? No. of applicants vs. no. of acceptances? Ratio of females/males? American vs. international students?)
All this (and more) is right there in the library. You just need to decide what is important to YOU. The next step is to locate 6 schools to apply to ASAP. You should include 2 schools that are "long shots" -- probably won't accept you, but you are hoping they will -- 2 schools that are very likely to accept you, but there's a chance they won't -- and 2 absolutely sure choices. (They'll accept anybody). Write your essays, pay your fees, and send off the applications, then see what comes back. If you are lucky, you'll get in one of the top schools, which of course will have a FABULOUS music program and pre-med program. You will have the opportunity to sample courses of each program as you attend, and soon your future will become clear. You'll decide where your heart really is headed.
Don't forget to talk to your school counselor if you have one. If you don't, just write to any colleges you are interested in (or contact them online) to get more information about the school and their application information and deadlines.
Hope this helps! Best wishes to you!
you have to do what you enjoy. no one else besides you can make that decison b/c you're the one that has to stick in the field you choose for the rest of your life.
. You sound pretty intelligent. Why not go for a double major? Or major in pre-med with a minor in music?
The music will sooth the savage beast and medicine will cure it. They both exercise the heart and mind.
I seem to recall a story about how scientists love to listen to, if not play, classical music. Very pacifying.
Ya'know, sometimes I can't choose 'between' strawberry ice cream and a slice of apple pie. yum. So guess what ...?
