What's the proper way to write in a shipping address when making an order online, or anywhere?

Question:For example, when you're buying somthing online, and it asks you for an address to ship to, do you write out "road," or can you abbreviate it as "Rd. ?" Same thing with avenue/ave, street, etc

Also.if it is ok to abbreviate, but on your credit card or whatever it has the full way spelled out, and you write it in the abbreviated way, will that become a problem?

You can write it either way. What the postal system in the US relies on the most is the five digit zip code. Also if you have the added four digits to to zip code, this gives them additional info, like zones in the zip code,what side of the street the house or building is on, or if it is a box or suite number. Example: 94287-1125

You should have no problem at all either way.
