What is your highest level of Education completed, also are you happy with the decisoins you made ?

Question:Hey

I've got one more year left of High School and I'm looking forward to graduating. It's been a long 11 years and one more to go. After High School I plan on joining the Canadian Forces and serve as an Infantry soldier. Afterwards I'll join the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.

I checked into everything and a high school diploma is required for both jobs. Do you know of anyone who has got a fulfilling career with only a high school diploma ? Are they happy with their life ?

Some of my family recommended that I either attend college or University, however I've never enjoyed school that much and I believe that my decisions will prove to be a positive impact on my life.

How did you end up where ever you are today?

Are you living life with a high school diploma or have you got degree of some kind ?

I feel like I'm going to enjoy my life after high school and I'm looking to moving on in the next chapter of my life.

When you think of it, a high school diploma is worth a lot !

Answers:
First of all, congratulations on getting through high school! I know for a fact that high school and university isn't for everyone.
Secondly, i think your career choice is a fantastic one. A beautiful dream...good for you for following it.

I completed my Hons. BSc. last year and i'm not even working in my field. I currently work in two hospitals in Diagnostic Imaging (Ultrasounds, etc.) and i LOVE it. They hired me because i HAVE a degree, but they didn't need to know what i got it in. (it's in Physics and English, a double major).

I found that i didn't need my degree to get where i am now, but it did help. I also am discovering that i have to go back to school again because i want to be an xray tehcnologist. This is a degree i could have applied to straight out of high school. The only benefit i will have from my univ. degree is a year or two less for the diploma.

Of course, my degree is not a waste...but it's one HELL of an expensive piece of paper that i didn' tneed...but i'm glad i have it. I'm very proud of it.

In short, i don't think university is necessary, nor is it for everyone. Your career choice is a fantastic one and there are many other amazing and fulfilling careers that can be gotten straight out of high school.

Power to you, and good luck!

Never thought about being a teacher growing up. Was pushed into being a teacher by my husband who was a teacher.

Enjoyed going to University. Didn't much care for all the administrative guff you have to put up with being a teacher.

Enjoyed the money. A Master Teaching Degree can earn you about $65,000 in Texas. Texas is one of the lowest paying states for teachers.
I have my diploma, and am working on an associates at the moment. When I finish my associates (December) I am taking time off from school to go into the Peace Corps, and I can honestly say that I've never been happier.
I have a Master's in English. I am contimplating a doctorate -- probably in Educational Law.

I love where I am professionally, and I needed the degrees to get there. I teach for a living. A Bachelor's would have allowed that, but the Master's gave me more options. I have taught college and was able to enter a fast-track program for my principal's certification due to my Master's.

My husband joined the Army not too long after high school and then went to a tech school and received a two-year degree. That has allowed him to make choices he would not have had otherwise.

I feel that no education is ever wasted. If the military interests you, then go for it. I guarantee there will be education there, too, both formal and informal: basic training, tech schools, conflict resolution, cultural diversity, etc. Many of the tech courses will count toward college credit should you wish to follow that path later.

Since I teach for a living, most of the people I know have degrees. However, even those folks that I hang out with who do not have college degrees have attended training schools and the like for their jobs.

My advice is this: follow your heart. If you're tired of school, take a break for awhile. That's okay. Just keep your options open. You may decide the outside world isn't what you expected. A degree never hurt anyone I know.
