I liked "Girl, Interrupted" (Susanna Kaysen), "Go Ask Alice" (anonymous), and "The Bell Jar" (Sylvia Plath) when I was in high school. The Bell Jar I actually read for an assignment in American Lit.

Anything by Tamora Pierce, though her target audience was more for girls.
Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time series, while long-winded, is a good read for those that like epic series. There are 11 or 12 books so far, and the story is really well thought out, in my opinion. Harry Potter, of course, is great for all ages. Lord of the Rings as well, classics. Try the Chronicles of Narnia too.
The Twilight series by Stephanie Meyer is pretty good too.
