Teachers can be like that sometimes, but what you have to keep in mind is that they are human too. They lose things, they lie, they have bad days and just want to take it out on others, just like everyones else. Now I know how frustrated you must be, I've had a similar problem before. What I'm not getting though is how you failed the entire course because of one failed paper if you got A's and B's on your other work? That sounds a little off to me, you might want to look into that instead of how your paper got lost would be my advice. My only other advice would be to always from now on, keep two copies (one on paper one on disk) of important assignments until you receive your final mark for the assignment. It may take a little time out of your day to do so, but it will save you from any future grief like this.
