Question:Can someone suggest good educational institution in INDIA for IT? Appreciate if the admission and necessary costs are also mentioned. Thanks.

Answers:
ANNA UNIVERSITY, CHENNAI, TAMILNADU

Fees: Rs 5 lakhs
This is not a very easy question to answer in a few words still I'll try my best.

Firstly, you are late for this year atleast as classes begin in India around July/August and admission processes are usually over much before that. Your best bet would be to now try for 2008.

For IT, I would suggest your son to get an engineering degree, i.e a B.E. or B.Tech in Computer Science or IT. The name of the programs vary in some universities/colleges. Please have a look at www.aicte.ernet.in for a list of all the approved institutes for technical eduation in India.

The IITs (Delhi, Kharagpur, Chennai, Roorkie, Mumbai, Kanpur & Guwahati) are the best colleges in India. Then come the 16 NITs. Some other institutes like BITS Pilani, etc. are also very renowned. Then come the hundreds of state colleges and private institutes.

The Govt approved and better colleges are usually cheaper. Private colleges, although inferior, are generally more expensive. But the better the college, the more difficult it is to get admission. The top colleges have very stringent admission tests. Please check out individual websites for dates, procedures and fees.Sometimes, overseas students are allowed without admission tests also depending on the institute. Some seats are usually reserved for overseas students.

Usually overseas students have to pay in dollars and the fee structure is slightly higher than domestic students. I am of course, referring to govt. institutes. Private colleges usually have wide ranging rules and regulations that suit them.

First, decide on which colleges you would aim for and then find out more details about them one by one. I have already listed out the colleges, reputation-wise.
