Judges love anything that's played well and musically, and any show that is marched in time and with attitude and confidence.
So, basically, theme doesn't matter so much as performance of said show.
That said, funky soul/r&b music is something I've never heard in a show before, so try it! Nothing audiences like better than something different. :)
