I am a nursing student, will having a felony (theft) on my record keep me from getting into nursing school.?

Question:I was 16 when I 'accepted stolen goods' and got a first offenders program, I am currently 22. Would this keep me from pursuing my nursing degree? Should I just choose a different career?

Answers:
It would depend on your state. In Texas, felonies (no matter what they are) will not keep you from going to nursing school. However, you will not be able to get Texas State Certification to practice nursing. So, why would you spend your money and time to go to school if you couldn't practice? You might need to call the school and ask them directly and ask them also if the felony would keep you from getting state certification.
continue pursuing your dream. if it comes up, explain how you made a mistake when you were younger, paid the price and have since learned from that. you have no other offenses on your record and want to help people, etc.
Hi,
That should not affect you in becoming a nurse.
