Hi,
Preparing for IIT-JEE is tough, and time consuming. But with the right kind of preparation, it is not unachievable.
If you feel that you have the aptitude to take the test, start working as early as possible. Taking coaching from a good institute will definitely help - but in addition to their course material, refer good, high quality text books. Do a lot of numericals. if you are motivated enough, a correspondence course would do, but if not, go for classroom coaching.
I feel you'll have to spare at least 3 hours a day - if you are in 11th std and more if you are in the 12th. and THAT, is in addition to your regular schoolwork. But, if possible, you can complement preparing for JEE with your schoolwork. Eg. cover the same topics - go advanced on what they are teaching in school for JEE.
Some good institutes are FIIT-JEE and Brilliant Tutorials. Take mock tests - as many as possible - starting a few months before the actual test. you may score low at first, but keep your focus and work hard.

hai.iit - jee is very difficult and very prestigous exam in india...as the exam pattern changes from one year to another year and all the iit-jee paper setters are instructed by the IIT board that the question will not be repeated in the past exams, so the proffessors are very hard to set the papers also, as view of proffessors they tell that the student is very much in capable of thinking and must command on subject..so it can be done by solving different types of questions, as i was working in a Educational Institution i can give u some question papers at some cost if interested mail me to k_srinu_2004@yahoo.com...bye
