Went to work, the family needed and still needs money. Would've loved to go to uni though. I just left a low salary job in the post office after 18 years and i'm now in another low salary job in the security industry.
My son is 21 and did not go to college, he left school at 16, he now earns £30,000.00+ and has a great job, he gained much work experience and has tons of common sense.
He has his own flat, a car and he has not had any help.
I left school at 16 and went straight into work, I have helped many a friend start a business.
I went to Uni and it did make a difference I was a Manager
University isn't all about getting a decent qualification (obviously it is about that - but there are other advantages to going as well). It teaches you to be independent. To live away from your parents - but in a "safe" environment. Things you had never done before: cooking for yourself, cleaning, washing, shopping etc.
When I went to Uni, it really hit home when I discovered that I had to buy my own toilet roll!! Before, my parents would do that or I'd be at school and the cleaners would do it. It sounds really odd - but that's one of the first memories I had in my flat at Uni!
Enjoy University. You'll have a blast. But don't forget to work as well!!
i went straight into full time work, and over the years have had a few jobs, i am currently a supervisor on c**p money, i get roughly £15,000 per year, but i have to work hard for that and quite alot of hours, i have often thought about studying for different courses but as i work it will cost me alot of money to do them. so really i am in a catch 22 position
I did both. I worked for 12 years after school then went to uni.
Before I did cr*p, dead-end jobs at the council, now I can pick and choose what to do, as my experience enables me to get a variety of jobs.
I had a great time at uni and would recommend it to anyone, though only when they are ready for it. At 18 I was too immature.
