This is what helped me. People close to me were going through money problems, and it was really hard for me to watch, so I swore to myself that I would make a better life for myself. Plus, no-one really expected anything from me, and I really wanted to prove them wrong, and to show that I could actually do something with myself. You have to find your own personal motivation. What do you want in life? Do you want money? Are you a shopaholic who wants really nice clothes? Do you want a goregeous house on the beach? Whatever your motivation is, keep in mind that the only way you're going to achieve it is through hard work. And hard work for most people usually means getting a good job. How do you do that? By going to college. How do you get to college? By having good grades in school. You're lucky that you're only in middle school, and have just realized that school is important. Some people graduate and realize this, and it's too late. So find your motivation, constantly think of your goals, and do as much as you can to better yourself, not only in school but by ditching bad friends, etc. You are the only person who can control your future! So take up the challenge!
Also, since you mentioned that you're a troublemaker, I want you to think of one reason how making trouble in your life right now will help you in your future. Can't think of a good one? Maybe that's saying something. Focus on what's important! Good friends, family and school. Really, if you get your priorities straight, you can go very far in life.
