College Essay?

Question:Do you think stating that I lived in japan for 6 years because my parents are in the military would help me stand out in a college essay and interview ? should I mention it or not ?

Answers:
Of course. it shows that you have been abroad and have already had these types of experiences. YES 100%
It could be very beneficial to make you stand out from other applicants but make sure you integrate it into the conversation or essay nicely so it doesn't seem like you're just putting it out there in order to sound unique.
I am a high school counselor. Colleges want that information if you can show how your time there made an impact on you as a person, helped you grow and mature. If you learned life lessons, changed or matured and because of those changes you are better equipped for success in college, talk or write about it. They want to know who you are, not just what you did. You should shine shine through your writing. The story is a jumping off point for them to learn about you. Maybe mention it and select a moment or event that wowed or changed you. They don't want a travelogue. They want YOU!
