If someone has a PhD, what does that mean? I know what it means.?

Question:It means "Doctor of Philosophy". But what is it actually for? Is it a degree, like a master's/doctor's degree?

Answers:
Ph.D is a doctors degree and is higher than a Degree or a masters degree.

To obtain one you have to do several years research on a said subject and write a thesis. The thesis is then read by an a specialist in that field and then you undergo an oral exam of no time limit. This can be between a couple of hours or even up to a day in some cases.

Or as a friend once told me it stands for

perfect hard D***
that means that they know most of all that is known about a topic.

in college it requires more training and research than a masters degree
It is an advanced degree, higher than a master's and roughly equivalent to an MD, DDS, etc. It is usually based on original research, culminating in a rigorous and detailed thesis which advanced a new area of knowledge.

Ph.D. stands for 'piled higher and deeper.'
