It makes going out of the home for entertainment unnecessary and news and information programmes let us learn about the world without having to read and to find out. Children nowadays also develop faster in language because of early exposure to television.
The main disadvantage of television is that it takes away from us the need to think. All programmes are digested and are what someone else has decided is interesting. If we make it a habit to accept other's opinions instead of forming our own by reading, we would become enslaved by the thoughts of others. Television also takes away the need to be active. If we stay in front of the TV set all the time, where would we find the time to exercise, socialise and enjoy the many things in life?
