Be friendly. Don't be the shy new kid. Be outgoing, but not annoying. Join clubs to get to know new people with the same interests as you. Even if you're not totally excited about any clubs, join one anyways. You can still meet new people and possibly gain a new hobby. Good luck!

Participate! Go to games, clubs, etc. Find 1 or 2 people that are the kind of people you really want to hang out with. It just takes 1 to get you into the group.
High school is a world unto it's own. You will be labeled by the group you choose. So, it's better to be a little lonely for a short time and then have a good group of friends for a lifetime.

I do NOT agree with 2s2s. Dont go for the lowest social group and work your way up, go for the people that seem the most like you and friendly. I mean, popularity doesn't really matter, right?
The best thing to do is compliment people! I mean sincerely compliment someone, and that's a great way to start a conversation. Everyone is drawn to compliments and things that make them feel good, so if you continue to compliment people, they will automatically be drawn to you and voila! friends! I know how you feel, i just moved i have to start as a freshman in a new school and i dont know anybody either. Oh, and most importantly SMILE, it makes you more approachable.
