The above URL talks about what map pencils really are. I'm not sure, but I think they are a special type of colored pencils. I don't know why you would need them for middle school but I'm sure that if you can't find them then you could always just get an assortment of different colored pencils.

A 12-inch ruler with english and metric, as you say, is simply a standard ruler with inch marks as well as centimeter marks. Most rulers have these marks.

These rules are durable and do have inch and centimeter marks, so they would be the type you want to buy. You can always buy plastic ones, but they break rather easily.

Don't worry about middle school. Your teachers understand because all of the people that just start middle school are at least a little nervous. If you have any questions, just ask them. Nobody jumps you in middle school either.

At my school, we had four minutes in between classes, and that was enough for me. The secret is to only go to your locker every few classes, or, if you can, bring your backpack with you (although at my school they did not allow us to bring them to classes). If you don't know where your classes are, perhaps you can find a map of your school. At my school, they had agendas, and on the back they had a map of all the rooms in the school labeled with the numbers, so that we could match the numbers on our schedules with the rooms. If you aren't given a map, you may be able to find one on your school website or somewhere online. You can always ask your teachers or any adult around the school, and you can also find someone in your class that has the same class as you next, so you can walk with them.

In 6th grade, I didn't get too much homework--about 2 hours or less each night, I believe. Because I was placed in the advanced class in 7th and 8th grade, I was given more homework. The teachers will not give you too much homework at the beginning of the year so that you can adjust slowly to the middle school environment. You are supposed to get only 60 minutes (an hour) of homework each night, but sometimes it's a little over. (grade level * 10 = minutes of homework that should be assigned--although this is usually not the right amount)
call your school and ask for what you need.
I would suggest a dictionary, and a text on grammar.
dont worry so much, you will be fine! you will make tons of friends, and ya its way different from elementary, but its also TONS more fun! and your homework depends on what classes you are taking and all that. and just ask your teachers what the supplies are, you will be fine! just rememeber, BE YOURSELF, and most importantly HAVE FUN!
My daughter started middle school Monday and she loves it. Nothing scary at all.she thinks it is cool that she gets a locker now. She had homework her first night but it didn't take her long. Just have fun...ur only young once!
Map pencils ARE colored pencils (usually they come in boxed sets) and most rulers are both english and metric (look for one with inches on one edge and centimeters on the other).
if you live in houston tx everthing should be in wal mart
Colored pencils are pretty standard for middle school, so if you haven't got those on your supply list, whoever told you that's another word for map pencils is right. A 12-inch ruler with English and metric - that's one that measures inches on one side, centimeters (cm) on the other, and you should be able to find that anywhere that sells school supplies.

I never got jumped in middle school, but that was a while back, and a school for military kids - I doubt that it's really that widespread a problem, though. You'll be able to find friends, just be patient and be yourself and you'll run into people you like eventually. Remember, all the other kids just coming up from elementary school are just as nervous as you.

If your school has an orientation program, go to it. If they don't, and they don't give you a map or something when you get there, ask a teacher or someone older to point you in the right direction.

Good luck, and relax!
I dont know what map pencils are but just get a 12 inch ruler with 30 centimers marked on the other side. Its not hard to get to your classes because after a week you sorta kno where they are and how to get to them. It doesn't take that long to do homework maybe 1 hour max if its a really busy dau, but make sure you right down all your assignments and do it right after dinner. Dont worry just do what you like to do and meet people that enjoy doing it to and, youll make a bunch of friends. You are not gonna get jumped don't worry especially if your school is small cuz there'll always be someone else around.

Hope this helps
Map pencils are just like you thought...colored pencils. You can probably find a ruler that you described in an office supply store (if not at Wal-mart). Middle school is really no different than any other school. If you are following your friends from elementary, you will just meet up with them and go about like you did before. If you are starting all over in a new school without any friends. Just go in and be nice. You will make new one s in no time. I have never heard of a rule about people jumping you in middle school. That probably happens in any school because there will always be bullies. Like I said before, just be nice to people and you won't have too much to worry about. Just treat people the way that you would want to be treated. And don't gossip.

Last thing...don't worry about the homework. Yea, you will have it. It will be a change for you because you will have to start to schedule time in the evenings for it. Just be sure you do it when you get it so that you aren't in a panic when it comes time to turn it in. Does that make sense?

All in all, I am sure that you will be fine. It will take a little bit of adjusting, but you will get the hang of it. Everyone has to go through and we all did just fine.

Good luck!
i wish i could help you. you're only starting middle school and im starting high school, and im clueless.
Don't worry!Map pencils are colored pencils and the 12 inch ruleris just a ruler that is a foot long.Dont be so hard on yourself.Trust me that's how I felt but for me it was pretty worst because I moved to a whole different state and you probably won't get as much work after school because I didn't and you also won't be lonely all year and kids don't jump you in middle school unless you start a fight which you shouldn't do.E-mail me if you need more help I'm starting 7th grade next week The school I'm going to is new and some of my friends are not going there to.
Go to K-mart and look at their rulers -- look at the different rulers and you can see one side will have measurements in inches and the other side will be metric -- if you having a problem, ask a store clerk. Inches are measures in increments of 12, and metrics are measures in increments of 10.

Try not to worry so much, be yourself, and stay away from bullies. Make friends who like you because of who you are not what you can offer them, you like them, and find friends who don't try to get you in any kind of trouble.

Homework takes as long as it takes to complete the job. It is hard to say homework will only take 30 minutes or 2 hours, because each homework assignment requires different amounts of time to complete.

Now, how about some spelling correction
skool is school
becuz is because
Also, i is I no matter where it starts in a sentence, and you always capitalize at the beginning of a sentence.
