What are some good extra-curricular activites and do they have to be school related?

Question:I don't like sports, I def. can't sing, music really isn't my thing, I have a total fear of performing in front of people, ect.

I would however love to do something like work/volunteer at a vets office or humane society. I am in a youth group at church and we had a clothing and school supply drive for the needy which I helped in. Would these types of thigs count as extra curriculars?

Answers:
Technically "Extra-Curricular" could include anything that was outside your regularly assigned school work. However, in the context of "additional schooling" it would more appropriately mean some additional work or service that would in fact extend your education beyond that that is officially assigned. Such as: Library Assistant; Chemistry Lab. Assistant; Correcting test papers for underclasses(such as math tests etc.); Central Office assistant; Supply room assistant; Stock Club; Literature Club; Science Club (science projects etc.); Certainly any School Sponsored "Drives" would qualify; lots of opportunities-- just takes NERVE to go and ask about them but always tell yourself-- IF you get turned down you haven't lost anything BUT if you don't go and ask you've certainly LOST an opportunity to try! Remember-- the whole purpose of school and schooling, besides giving you the basic knowledge with which you will accomplish the REST of your life, is to provide a place where you can TRY something with zero penalty for not suceeding. Also, with no restrictions on trying AGAIN if you are not successful the first time!
i'm pretty sure that they do
Volunteering has it's own area on a college application. The best thing you could possibly do nowadays is be a part of the Academic Decathlon. I think 40 states do this, and considering that it is recognized nation-wide by colleges, you should jump at the opportunity...I'm glad I did.
Would they count as extra curricular towards school, well depending on what you plan to be when you graduate college it could possibly be a plus on your college app. Habitat for Humanity has several different ways you can volunteer your time. If you enjoy working with people this would definitely be something for you to look in to. Otherwise you could always talk to your school counselor and tell them your concerns, most likely he/she could point you in the right direction.
