It's all propaganda and every nation uses some form of it. The purpose of a patriotic song is to make you feel inspired about your country and to make you believe that it is the best country in the world; so that when the government deems a situation as a crisis, it will be easier for you to support them and risk your life (in times of war) and justify your death to your family. That's it.
It gives people a feeling of strength and stability, people can be totally different, but when it comes to their compassion to their country they stand as one,
It works allot like say at a ball game the team does their game or school chant and it brings them together as one.
The government has nothing to do with the songs it is the deep feeling of individuals pride.
