How do School years in the UK compare to those in the USA?

Question:like when you are in year 9 in the UK you are either 13 or 14 so what grade would that be in America?

They're all there.

Basically, the American equivilent is always one less than the UK year. So year 9 is 8th grade.
I didn't know Americans could spell.
Its the same - we didnt use grades before but for some reason bought it in. The difference is in US you have to stop at school until 18 years old, here it is 16, although this may change soon
In the states the kids can start pre-kinder garden at 3-4,then kinder garden 4-5 then 1st grade at 5-6 and so on. Pre-K isn't required but it is usually about 3 to 4 hr long just to get the kids use to other kids and the school routine.

American children start school at the age of 6 leaving at the age of 18 although 53% fail to get their High School Diploma. You would be in 8th Grade if you were 13/14 years of age.
