These two schools are SO different. They're both excellent schools and will look good on your resume. Don't worry about that. Think about what more you want to get out of school. USC has much more of a college-feel to it. Its a campus, with big sports teams and a lot of camaraderie.
NYU, on the other hand, is very much like New York. The campus is spread across areas of Manhattan, mixed in with the city. Both schools have expensive tuition, but New York is a really expensive place to live for a student. My sister went to NYU for two years, but felt like she was missing out on being in "college" so she ended up transferring. She felt that she could move back to New York after college, but she could never get that feeling of being part of a college campus back.
I would suggest visiting both schools and spending time there. Feel out where you fit in best. If you're unhappy, your education will suffer--no matter how good the program is. The most impressive thing on your resume will be what you get out of your time in school. The right fit is essential to that. College is about a lot more than classes--make sure you're getting the full experience you want!
if your going for art history then go to NYU. they are like the school of schools for art. but honestly i would choose USC b/c its warm at USC. its not warm at NYU lol! it would be a much nicer college experience.
Hello There!
You say you live in California, so that really is the deciding factor. MONEY! As a resident of California, you will be able to go all the way through college for a much cheaper price than if you go to another state. The difference is HUGE! So, this is a no brainer!
NYU is a nice enough place, BUT.. .BUT. . .BUT. . it is not to far from Ground Zero, and the area could still be very toxic.
My daughter got a scholarship to NYU, but went to San Francisco for college. When she went to sign up for her classes at NYU, they didn't have enough of her courses available for her first semester for her to finish in 4 years. . .so she walked away from there and went to California! She did great out there and still lives there today.
Please, I know that right now the Amount you pay may not be foremost in your thoughts, but it is so important for the rest of your life!
Stay in California!

Hahaha...I am having the same dilema.
I also live in California.
I got into both schools for graduate study.
Weighing my options and trying to decide is also killing me.
I need to decide by this Wednesday where I want to attend.
Last week I visited NYU and noticed how completely different it is from USC.
Personally, right now it seems that USC has everything I am looking for in a graduate program.
So really the only reason I might choose NYU is to gain a completely different life experience.
Good luck!
USC is the best school, although NYU has a great art program. It's alot warmer in Calif: than in NY.
