Of course it does, if you retain what you have read. If you don't remember what the paragraph you just read said, read it out loud. That way, you are not only seeing it but are hearing the words. With a little practice you will remember and learn. As far as social skills, it will give you some knowledge of whatever subject has interest for you, because you have already read and 'heard' about it. Try this little exercise, it will help.
