Help - Anyone who has trained - or is training - to be a plumber?

Question:This is for my hubby - he is a joiner at present but wants a change in career and fancies plumbing. Does anyone know how long it would take to be a fully trained plumber. He is already starting a two year plumming course over two nights a week. But I have a feeling there's quite a few levels before your fully qualified?

Answers:
my friend wanted to be a plumber, because the money is good. The two year course sounds right, but regulations constantly change. This is what put him off. Another plumber friend told me that (for gas fitting), the corgi certificate gets harder, and that you need to keep going for updates.
My experience with plumbing (basic fitting, years ago when it wasn't so complex, and more recently as a plumbers mate) tells me they are the most stressed out bunch of tradesmen i've ever met! You're right to be seeking other peoples viewpoint!
