I feel your concern! I payed a small fortune for my class ring, 1974, and the first time I went surfing after I got it, I didn't have it no more! Memories are what you keep in your heart. Save your money, I bought a very expensive one way back in the Jurassic period-1970. Sold it for scrap gold, it was so passe after I graduated. If you want a ring get a ring that means something to you; not a class ring. Guess all of us mostly agree.
