Like others have said, which direction the portrait faces is an artistic choice, (left, right, or straight ahead). Actually, left facing portraits are rare in this country's history, (as well as most countries). We got the tradition of profile portraits on coins from the ancient Greeks and Romans, and 95%+ of those were always right facing. Having left facing portraits now may seem normal, but it is actually VERY rare!
