How can I avoid procrastination?

Question:I am a student and this fall I have a ton of work to do and papers to write. I am so busy with extra-curricular activities that I barely get time to work on these projects. Problem is, I can't seem to get organized and get started. I keep pushing the deadlines to the back of my mind, and soon I will be in real trouble.

Does anyone have any solutions/ tips for tricking myself into using my time more efficiently?

Answers:
Just remember the Nike tag line "Just do it!"

Good Luck!
will tell u later.he he

ok as far as i know u need to have strong will power.Just do it.I make a priority list in my mind that which work is more important.Like for example sitting in my room and listening to the music or studying my course books.Since i can listen to music any time so i decide to study.

But i know its easy to give advice rather than following it as i myself suffer from this problem.

Edited: U can make a timetable also and abide by it.But make a feasible timetable which is practical to follow. Also don't waste ur time unnecessarily, do something efficient and productive so that at the end of the day u feel "yes i have achieved something today". Also don't plan to finish all your work in one go, have patience and do ur things slowly and steadily and u will achieve ur tasks.

Good Luck
Well, what I do is do so many things that I absolutely have to start my homework or else I won't get it finished and get any sleep. I make lists too, to organize myself.
Set lower standards.

Actually, I'm serious. In college, writing papers and getting stuff read sadly becomes the art of pulling stuff out of your butt.

I'm a procrastinator too, and I'm that way because I always set standards of perfection or high-acheivement for myself and it's always that-much-harder to get started for that reason.

It's always best to start with the puke-on-paper approach and trick yourself into thinking you're going to produce something mediocre.

Then, when you're in the middle of producing something mediocre and your perfectionist side kicks in, you'll have written a slightly better paper.

It all works out in the end. :I <GRIN>
Never let yourself get behind because what day will you have to do tons of work.

At the start of the term/semester, do all of the assigned work as it is given. Set little daily goals. Try to work in reading whenever possible. Keep folders for each class in you bag. Go thru the papers daily and keep important ones on top. Read your syllabus often. Make sure you aren't forgetting any work that is assigned. Some instructors don't remind students about assignments.

Drop the extra-curricular if it's interfering. You can't sacrifice your grades for them. Unless the activities are going to be your source of income when you graduate.

And Fire is right just get the work done. Don't worry about it too much.
Get rid of the extra-curricular activities that you don't need to have. Meaning that if it's work then keep it, if it's meeting up with friends then ditch it. Save the extra-curriculars for when you have time for them, which isn't now. This will give you time for those projects, or at least a start on them.
Ah, don't worry about it, there's always tomorrow!

Get a good calendar with nice big, blank squares. It needs one you can carry with you. I have a 8 1/2 by 11 size calendar. I write what I need to get accomplished and deadlines in each square. I then can see that I my month is full of things to do (visually). I feel better when I can scratch another thing off my calendar. Well, that is my trick. It feels rewarding to scratch another task off..just remember don't schedule too much on one day or you will get defensive and find yourself on your couch watching repeats on the television.
