15,972 candidates took "Classical Subjects" this summer. That represents 0.3% of the "total number sat".
59.8% got an A*-A grade, which is well above the national average, even though Latin is reckoned to be the hardest of all GCSEs (according to the Durham University comparison of relative subject difficulty).
Annoyingly, the JCQ lump together Latin, Greek, Classical Studies etc in one category of "Classical Subjects". Individual examination boards, however, will give the precise numbers for each specification. See the tables of provisional GCSE results, which should be appearing now on the main exam boards websites.
