Question:I had a proffessor that said he would write a letter of recommendation when I applied to law school. How do I go about asking him about this again? We only have contact through email. I plan on applying for next fall (2008) He said he would be very happy to write one when the time comes, but we have not spoke about it for several weeks now, how should I bring it up?
Answers:
The best way is to be open and straight forward. Professors know how important these letters are, and are very accustomed to being asked for them and to writing them. Ask informally in an e-mail, indicating that you will follow up with a formal written request. When you mention it, begin by thanking him for being willing to do the letter for you. Make sure you forward him all the necessary information and make the process as easy as possible for him. Good luck with law school.
