Can a school counselor stop me from dropping a AP class without a contract?

Question:During the school year i signed up for AP US, but now i wish to drop the class and just take regular us history. I asked my counselor and there is a fifty fifty chance that she'll let me drop the class. I havent turned in my ap contract form yet so does the counselor have the authority of me dropping the class?

Answers:
If you want to drop any class, there's nothing the counselor can do about it. The only reason would be if that class was required, but this probably isn't the case here. You can't be forced to take an AP class if you don't want to.
no you should be able to take whatever you want as long as it's not required. and in high school, usually ap classes are not required.
You will need to turn in the form first. Turning in the form gives them the authority to drop you from the class because that paper will state that you wish to drop the class.
