Most are over 4... at least every school I went to was!
Normally the GPA system is:
4=A
3=B
2=C (average)
1=D
eveything below 1 is F (fail)
It's out of a 4.0 perfect gpa. A's are given 4 points, B's are 3 points, C's are 2 points, and D's are 1 point. All A's would be a 4.0 out of 4.0 total possible. A 2.3 GPA would be out of 4.0. Since a 2.0 is considered a "C" Average, a 2.3 would be considered "C+" average.
So let's say you take 6 classes. You get A's in 3 and B's in 3. Here's the formula (3x4)+(3x3)=12+9=21
Take that number, 21, and divide by the number of classes. 21/6=3.5
so the gpa is 3.5.
Colleges look at it on a 4.0 scale. Although...my high school would award an extra point if the class was Advanced Placement (AP) college level. In those classes, A's were worth 5 points, B's 4, C's 3, D's 2. Not all high schools use that system and colleges do not recognize or care for that.
Your GPA is out of 4.0 possible. Each grade is worth certain points: An A is a 4.0, a B is a 3.0, C is 2.0. I'm not sure if Ds and Fs are even counted, it depends on the school, and some schools use the +/- system, so if you get a B+ you might get 3.5 instead of 3.0. All of your grades are added up, then averaged by the number of classes. So if you had 3 A's (12.0) and 2 B's (6.0) you would have 12.0 points, divided by 5 classes which gives you an overall GPA of 3.6. When colleges give you an average GPA, it is usually the average high school GPA of incoming freshman for the previous year. It's to give you an idea of the GPA that they are looking for to accept new students.
normal
4-a
3-b
2-c
if below zero
u can have higher than a 4.0..like 4.6 up to 6.0
In the U.S. the Grade Point Average (GPA) is 0 to 4.0 a GPA of 4.0 is the highest it goes.The military uses the same in evaluation marks,4.0 being the top.I would assume they use the same system (scale) in the UK.
