Too much pressure to make good grades...help?

Question:Through 7th grade, I was a straight-A student. Then last year in 8th grade, my grades started slipping, especially in algebra, to Bs and even one C. It wasn't that I wasn't trying. My parents acted so dissapointed and made me feel like the biggest failure ever. This year in 9th grade, I vowed to make all As and high Bs. But today I made a 70 on an algebra test and I'm freaking out so much that I'm getting tension headaches and nausea. I haven't told my parents yet because I'm scared to. What can I say to them? And if they're too harsh how should I react?

Answers:
My guess is that your parents really want you to do well, and you can't do well if you get sick just thinking of a test. We all get bad grades from time to time, but there is plenty of time to make it up. I got a 39 on the first test of the year last year, in english, but still managed to pull out an A in the class by the end of the semester.

Tell your parents why your grades are slipping, and they will probably be supported. If they thought you were watching too much TV, or just being too lazy to study, they might get mad. But if you really don't understand the subject, and then are freaking out to the point of sickness, then that shows you CARE about doing better, and you want to. They shouldn't get mad about that. And they might even be ableto help you with your homework, or at least find you a tutor.
I know what you mean about harsh parents. My dad is always pushing me to get Straight A's, even if make 1 B, like 89, he's disappointed in me. Just tell your parents that you tried to the best that you could.
Don't worry about it.
Just tell you parents that you really struggled with this section of the algebra.
I have a friend who's in a similar situation. His father is constantly pressuring him to get straight A's but he can't deliver with them. I think that you have to sit down with your parents and discuss with them how you're trying your hardest and there's nothing more you can do. Most reasonable parents would accept this. However, if this does not work, there is always an option of yelling at them.
Very sorry about your situation, I went through nearly the same thing once, so I can sympathize dearly.

With that said, I think you should tell you parents about your headaches and nausea that you're getting just from having a 70 on a test. That isn't normal and you could have an anxiety disorder or something that's causing it. Try starting out with "I know you're dissappointed that my grades last year weren't as good as they used to be. However, if I don't get help, I think my grades this year will suffer too."

Maybe consider a tutor or asking your teacher for after school help, it sounds like you want to do better in school, so why not? Good luck from me to you!

Hey there. well first of all try and relax. Let your parents know that u are trying ur hardest and that if u don't get an all so great grade or score it's because it gets harder and harder each time. trust me u don't get asked the same problems in high school as u did in elementry, do u? It's hard. Try ur hardest, but don't go over the top because i'm sure ur health is as important if not more than ur grades to ur parents. I'm sure they still love u the same when u get a B. Dont let their pushes get to you. I have the same thing a B, just is not good enough 4 them, but i relax and tell them that i will go ask the teacher fo extra credit to boost my grade, maybe u should try that. Best of luck!! :)
Tell your parents because if they see it without you telling them, they might be even madder. Study harder & try your best. Talk to them about solutions (maybe getting tutored). They'll appreciate the fact that you're trying to improve.
