I don't think that uniforms do any good. Students should be able to express themselves, and during the teen years, clothing is the easiest way to do that. I understand that there are disadvantaged kids who can't afford certain clothing, but that doesn't change with uniforms: some kids will have certain brands of the uniform, etc. Kids will always find a way to tease each other and make each other feel inferior-- that is the state of America today (unfortunately). Instead of telling our kids what to wear, we should spend time with them and teach them to be kind to one another, to accept differences, to accept strengths and weaknesses, and to always be true to who they are.
Think of how much money you'll save that you aren't spending on school clothes.
they should be mandatory
I really think that school uniforms aren't so attractive. Let the kids be free and wear whatever they desire. Who cares about the contests. People learn from there mistakes later on.
I was in public school for 6 years, and private school for 6 years. I actually came to prefer the uniforms! You don't have to get up and worry about what you're going to wear, or if you just wore it and everyone will think you wear the same thing everyday, or if its in style. etc. All you have to worry about it having a clean one in the morning. Its kinda nice. And really you don't look at how other people look IN them -- everyone kinda looks the same. You'll see.
Students should wear what they want to or otherwise we are going to end up like the Soviet Union. Is not that what America about? Being free and independent?
with school uniforms ppl cant make fun of others because of their clothes. But then you can't wear what you want. With uniforms, the school looks more formal. But you cant express your individual style. my point is the uniform is mostly the schools benefit not yours. you choose which one you rather have.
eww i hate uniforms
I have uniforms too, and I think it's a really good thing. There's a lot of popular people at my school who's parents are like rich, and if we didn't have uniforms, we'd be divided into who's clothes are better and who has the most money. Being one of the people who's parents aren't rich and don't have as much money as the other ones, I'd feel horrible going to school in my own clothes. Even in elementary we were seperated. I'm so grateful for uniforms. They help a lot of people.
The school did not switch to school uniforms to impress the students; it switched to either (a) help create an environment where academics are more important and clothes &/or social status are less so, or (b) help keep students safer by eliminating overt gang symbols.
In my high school our students are not permitted to wear head gear other than those sold by the school. We have gang activity not too far from our campus, and it's harder for gang members to identify each other both on and off campus without the obvious cap or bandana. Yeah, it's not foolproof, but anything to make it harder is a good thing...
I think we should have the right to express ourselves, but at the same time, people who can't afford nice clothes should not be made fun of. I think if you have school uniforms you should be able to add your own touches such as a belt, or being able to dye your hair a funky color.
i agree with u. Looks will be the only factor someone can judge you on if you have to wear uniforms.. Uniform suck!!..a person should be able to express themselves through their clothing..in my opinion
I think that they are a good thing. You are in school to learn not to become a fashion model, and most clothes these days show way too much skin. Now what you do and wear out of school is up to you.
wHEN i WAS IN highschool they changed after my first year to uniforms, needless to say i was upset. however this worked in the long run. kids can be cruel and if your not hip to the latest fashin they can make fun of you or if you cant afford name brands uniforms allow structure and lets you get educated not distract from why your really there. I think its a good thing.
Some people like them, some don't.
I don't.
I Them! Even if my shcool don't wear 'em I don't like them. They make us look like old people!! hehehhehh:P Yeah and it's like you said it's going to be the one who looks better in the uniform!
Kids are terrible at dressing themselves in general. The girls are always dressing up like 40 year old prostitutes. They wear clothes that are too revealing, too much make-up, and end up looking trashy. The guys aren't much better either. They wear clothes that just don't fit.
Uniforms give the young'ins the class and style they could not come up with on their own.
My personal opinion is to let the kids wear what they want as long as it isn't so short or tight that no one can concentrate on learning. I have volunteered in both types of schools, ones with a dress code and ones without a dress code, and kids learn no matter what they are wearing. School administrators tend to over react too soon.
I live in Jamaica where all schools wear uniforms (all schools wera different unifoms) personally I think we should not wear them but I think "they'' let us wear them for our own safety.I have being wearing school uniforms now for 13 years and I am 14. I am used to it. It kinda sucks when you see everyone in the same thing but I deal with it.
You will get used to it trust me I know I am.... :-)
