College Help!?

Question:I'm taking an Intermediat Algebra course in college. Math is my absolute worst subject, but I MUST make an A in the class. I get so stressed out on problems I can't figure out, and I get horrible head aches from trying. What can I do? Any suggestions?

Answers:
go and talk to your professor. I'm sure they would be able to work something out with you and help you out. Also, you could befriend someone in your class who is good at math. They can help you try and understand some of the concepts.

Also try not to stress about it too much.Chances are the more stressed you get, the less your brain is able to process information. I would maybe get some tea, or do some soothing exercises (yoga maybe) before you start studying. Also listening to classical music can help before and durring your study time. Make sure you set aside a steady time each night to review course material.

And I know it sucks but the only way to get better at something is continuous repetition. Make sure you do all your homework. Do some extra problems if you don't understand something. I don't know about your school, but mine has an online/ IM thing where if you are having a hard time with something you can just IM your professor or email them and they will answer and try to help you out.

Oh, and take advantage of the professor's office hours...go and talk and get help...make sure your prof knows who you are by asking questions...it may help if you end up with a borderline grade at the end of the year!
Find out if your college has a tutor program. Most colleges set up a program that allows someone else to help tutor you for free. I would look into that first. You could also do what you can and go to your professor before the class and ask for help. If you're professor sees that you're trying your hardest their more likely to be sympathetic if you can't understand it. Make some friends in the class too.
Ask your friends for help that have that class, aslo ask your professors for help, if you can.
Get a tutor, I'm serious. When I went to college in nursing school, there is a lot of chemistry as you may know. I stink @ chem. I got a tutor @ did great. It takes a lot of stress off of you. I used a friend who teaches it & she didn't charge me anything. If all else fails, try it.
I'm not a math whiz either. You can get a tutor, there are other students who are math whiz's who offer their services. What worked for me was practicing every night, doing all the homework and really it became pretty easy after a while. Studying every night and working on the problems will make you more confident and eliminate the "math anxiety" that alot of people have! Once you get the basic idea down, they are all done the same, that's the nice thing about math, you don't have to be creative in coming up with the answer.

Oh, and get those cheat sheets they sell in the school store, not sure who makes them, but they have shortcuts in figuring out algebra. Just ask in the school store.
