What is the value of money?

Question:We are taught that different amounts pay for goods at different values and use paper to exchange for the goods we want to buy. Does that paper (that we call money) really have a value?

Answers:
There is no value to money - it is just the preferred way to pay for goods.
other than enslaving minds, no
where do you live again ??
money only has value because the government backs it. But even gold, when you think about it, has no value except everyone agrees that it does.
yes, its a means of exchange.

are you buying or selling?

and paper money was introduced because it was easier to carry.
Some people are very materialistic and would say yes, but does money bring happyness, I dont think so. Also when people get married and one has a lot of money you have to question if it is for love or money?

I think money has brought a lot of issues to the word like stress, over work etc

yes it has a value because it is portable durable and can b stored over long periods of time.. tell me if a tomato can that..:)
well yeah but if money was never real it will be just a paper
the value of money is dependent on the reserves of the country that money is from -the more "gold", "silver", etc reserves a country has decides the value of that currency -In philosphical truth, money has no value -its is flawed, unlike the barter systen of ancient time -when goods were directly traded for services or vice versa
It is backed by US gold (which as someone said here) everyone agrees has value. Other cultures have used other "valuable" commodities to trade by.

I had a question on a standardized test once, what was most valuable: gold, diamonds, silver, and water were the choices...I chose water---guess what, I got it wrong, but I still disagree!!
The value of money is whatever someone will give me for it.
Value is only a perception. Money is the system in which value is exchanged. Since everyone uses this system, it has value.

If nobody conforms to this system of exchange or does not share this perception, it does not have value.
It is the compressed form of human labor(mental, physical or both)
everybody is using Gold as an example but in roman times it was salt, solders were paid in salt ,then they started minting coins for they can be carried around . the paper money we use is only a bit of paper that isn't 'worth the paper its printed on' ,it represents gold that your government will 'pay on demand'
yes money's true value is that it gives us choices.
Value can be symbolic, value can be utilitarian, value can be aesthetic . . . . Nothing has intrinsic value because we give things value - it is a human action - and a things value, in terms of trade, are whatever the buyer and seller agree on. A things value to you are, well, that is a tough question.
well if it wasnt called money it would really be paper just with prints on it
