Answers:
Percentile is different than percent.
Here's how:
If I got a 90% on a standardized test, it would mean that I got 9 in 10 questions correct.
However, if I got in the 90th percentile on a standardized test, it would mean that I did better than 90 out of 100 people who took the test...
Percentile is somewhat complicated. As long as you get above 50th percentile, you're above the average for the test -- which would be a good thing.
Wheras, I don't know many people who would consider a 50% on a test to be average.
Hope this explanation helps a little! =]
percentile.refers to how many out of 100.
5 percent would be 5 out of 100.
example...
20% of the class had a failing grade... (that would stink).
that mean for every 100 students. 20 fail.
IF the class has 500 students. 100 would fail.
IF the class has 50 students. 10 would fail.
a percentile is like percent in that there are 100 of them. This indicate how you scored on a standardized test. For example if you scored at the 80th percentile, that means, in a random sample of people your age, selected from across the country , you would out perform 80 of them
Percentile is defined as "parts of 100"
So if your score is in the 90th percentile, that means you did as well as or better than 90 out of 100 people. That's pretty good.
If you scored in the 50th percentile, then your score is average, because you did better than the lowest 50, but not as good as the highest 50.
