Is having two undergraduate degrees equivalent to having a graduate degree?

Question:Someone told me that having two undergraduate (bachelor) degrees is equivalent to having a graduate (master) degree. Is this true in the U.S.? If this is not true, are there any advantages in having two undergraduate degrees?

Answers:
No - it is not the same. The advantage is in having a knowledge base in two disciplines. It's especially helpful if they are connected. Criminal Justice and Psychology work well together.
no. the level of course work is different- and while undergrad classes can help fulfill some requirements, you must contribute to the body of work in the field you are studying to earn a masters. For example,in literature a master's candidate will analyze a piece of literature with the intent of conveying new or previously unexplored details. In scientific disciplines a candidate conducts research, gathers data, and writes an in depth research paper. All candidates undergo an exit interview by the professors in their college during which they must verbally convey their knowledge on a wide range of subjects in their field. Additionally, most master's and doctorates require a teaching component, whereby the candidate teaches some of the undergrad classes in their area of specialty, usually one class a semester. Baccalaureate candidates do none of these things.
Having 2 bachelor degrees is NOT the same as having a master degree. Somebody didn't know what he or she was talking about. The only advantage to having two would be if 1.) they are so closely related you can get the second easily and inexpensively, or 2.) you really really hate the field of study your first bachelor degree is in and have found a field of study you really, really love.
No. Having two undergraduate degrees shows undergraduate-level training in two fields. Having a graduate degree shows advanced, specialized training in one. Very different! The only "equivalent" might be the time spent, since getting a second undergraduate degree may not require you to retake the core units.

Having two bachelors degrees would hold little benefit over having one with a double major. If you've decided to change careers and need a degree in a different field, sure, the second degree in the more relevant field will help if you're able to spend the time and money. Otherwise, two bachelors for the sake of two bachelors will probably not be worth it.

Whether or not a graduate degree would be necessary or even useful for you depends on your intended career.
