What do the little triangles with numbers inside them on plastic containers mean??

Question:

Answers:
The triangle denotes that it is recyclable, and the number inside tells you what type of recycling it is. Some places have the capability to only recycle certain types of plastic/metal/paper.

This was done so that places would be able to spend less time with the waste that goes into recycling centers if they don't have the ability to recycle that type of plastic. Where I live, the people who pick up the recycling will often leave it out on the street if they notice too many items in the container that are not recyclable.
