Since i would like to get a private pilots license and i would like to get as many hours as possible to help qualify me for the air force academy I need to know what I need to do in order to get solo flight time as well as where i can do this. I need a place as close as possible to Long Beach, CA

There are several flight schools located at Long Beach airport. In order to solo an aircraft you must demonstrate to a certified flight instructor that you meet the basic requirements to safely operate an aircraft. There really isn't a free way to do it, you must be prepared to pay the going rate for flight instruction.
