Since this is a forum where you are asking questions, I think making a good effort to use good spelling and punctuation is important. You want people to understand you and take you seriously. Given the fact that we have a spell checker, you should be using it (though sometimes, if you are posting long answers, it is too hard to get the spell checker to work). If you have a few errors even after using the spell checker, then at least we know you tried your best.
However, I don't think people should just answer your question to tell you that you spelled something wrong if you made a good attempt to get things right. That's just annoying and kind of snotty.
I will admit that I sometimes go answer people's threads to tell them that they need to spell better. But in those cases, the people I go after are pretty much spelling everything wrong and are using tons of chat-speak. I'll comment on someone's thread if he/she has either made so many errors in punctuation, spelling, and grammar or has used so much chat-speak that I cannot understand the poster's question. When a person's errors get in the way of understanding, he/she should be reprimanded for that. The only exception is if the person is not a native English speaker.

well to stop that, you need to start spelling words right, that way you can avoid the annoyance that you are getting.
ME the only time i don't mind is in top set English where i was practically the worst speller in the class just because i write fast then forget to check my spellings afterwards
