I once helped with a role play area in my childrens school. We made a cafe.
I got a small group of children to help decide what we would put on the menu and how much it would be (it was very cheap, lol)
Then some children wrote the menus and an open/closed sign.
I arranged a table and chairs, and used a tablecloth and napkins, along with the menus to make it look like a cafe. There was also another small table with a till, and aplace for plates and cutlery.
We had some play food and I made some extra pieces.
The children loved it. One would be a waiter/waitress and ask the customers for their order. They would write it down on a pad and go and prepare it. Some children were able to add up the total but as it was year 1 infants some children weren't able. They tried though.
