Have you tried pre-k? If not, check with your nearest school or contact the school district.
http://www.ilheadstart.org/cookcounty.ht... Check here for a program if you've not tried Head Start yet.
Have you looked into Head Start, or is that what you're on a waiting list for? Head Start is free for income qualified families and sometimes accepts over-income families for a variety of reasons. If it is Head Start that you're on the waiting list for, call your local elementary schools, social service agencies, and churches. Ask for a list of programs in your area that you can check into. Also ask if there is a subsidized care program in your state to help you pay for child care. Most states have some sort of subsidized care money available for low-income families, and your local social service agencies should be able to help you find out how to qualify for it.
You have my sympathy. I understand what a difficult position you are in. You will be in my prayers.
