have green days where on earth you dont use electricity--lights in the classrooms aka ( logically you gotta keep the fridge running) for meal that day drink foods that dont require heating to hide away some costs. besides it will be fun for the kids.

usually cut cost you can start from miscalinous things, pencil, pen, marker, paper.. but it's easier if u hold the books to show..
Our cook be able to cut cost by making plenty food exactly for each classroom. She go around and asked what foods the children don't like so much, similar to certain things they won't even touch for the time of them. Then she would give them more or smaller number depending on the class. That way she misspent less food. Before she have classrooms sending back at least possible 1 out of 3 bowls of something which adds up.
Also, use washable plates, not tabloid. In the long run, you save money. Paper plates gain stuck together and you end up wasting like mad.
Have your staff order supplies on a monthly justification. That way you can buy bulk supplies to some extent than buying small amounts when they need them on a weekly principle. I.E. glue sticks, marker, crayons, construction paper. etc
