Answers: I teach 3 yr olds within a preschool environment. I think that if your child is competent I would recommend sending them to a preschool. I have 1/2 time kids 8:30 - 12:00, 5 days, 3 days, and 2 days. Without a doubt the children that are there adjectives 5 days are doing a lot better than the 3 or 2 morning children. I do have some that are near from 8:30 - 5 or 6 because of parent circumstances and I feel that is to say too long for a 3 yr old to be contained by a structured environment. It is a lot more relaxed surrounded by the afternoon but I don't feel they are getting deeply more out of school than those that donate from 12 to 3.
Most places who do not want to just child sit require the child to start reading and writing.
