At my school you normally got lines or detention for bad behaviour, but if you were really naughty, you got sent to the Headmistress for the cane. It happened to me twice, once for smoking in the toilets, and once for bunking off. I got 3 strokes on my non-writing hand both times and my God did it hurt. Still it must have worked, as I never did either again. This was in England in the 60’s

I went to a Christian school, and my principal had a paddle. I never got it, but when he showed it to us, it scared me to death. The kids who DID get paddles sure remembered it, and they tried their best to never go to his office again.
My freshman year I went to a catholic school where they used it pretty liberally by the principle and the dean of discipline I dont think corporal punishment does anything to improve behavior we all just got a lot better at not getting caught. I know they still use paddles in public schools here in texas and where I used to live ohio
Yes it was way back in 1980 for crawling under the school and comming up in a trapdoor in the Females toilets. Those where the days. Oh to be a teenager again. Got the cane from a teacher called Mr Thompson at Horowhenua College in Levin New Zealand. And no it did not improver behaviour as the teachers used to get power hungry and this was their way of being able to hit boys rather than punch them and they had fun doing so.
Oh yes, my mates and I were always in trouble at school and got sent to the Headmistress for the cane several times. The standing outside her office, waiting your turn and hearing the others get it and seeing them coming out shaking and blowing their hands, was almost worst that the actual caning its self. Afterwards we would all meet up in the girls loo to hold our poor little hands under the cold tap, to help take the pain away and to wipe away any tears, not that I ever cried!!!. Then we would go and boast to our classmates, how many strokes we’d had and say it hadn’t hurt, LOL.
When I was at school, boys got caned on their backside, and girls on the hand. Apparently it really hurt, although being a "good" girl, I never got to find out.
