it depends. i'm in your grade and i have one that is 12.5 in width and about 14 inches tall. it fits everything that you would need to bring home for school. we have ridiculous rules at my school where you can not bring the backpacks, jackets, etc into the classroom but maybe you can. good luck!
You want room to hold binders, text books, lunch, notebooks, and pencils. It might work to carry one or two books at a time between classes at school, but to carry three of four books, binders, and other things home from school you'll want more room.
