Have you read ON HIS BLINDNESS by John Milton. If not you must read it, I assure you if you try to really understsnd the thought process of the poet you will feel enlightened.
In fact these are two poems . Milton had gone blind but could get back his eyesight after a few years. After regaining his eye sight he wrote these two poems comparing the two stages of his life. Milton concludes that the life he spent as a blind man was a blessing of God and the life he was spending seeing the world s ugly face was a torture. In the end he prays to God to turn him blind once again so that he is spared the daily agony of seeing the dirty face of the world
