In a few places they have it right. Schools for Science & Math, other schools for the Arts, some for learning a trade, etc--at least the kids can choose one that interests them. Other than that, it's Military Schools, Homeschool, Religious Schools, Private Schools. What do you think?

I think Public Schools (in general) are glorified day care centers.
I do in some ways... but isn't it also up to students to make the school go down the ditch? Teachers I suppose could be the ones for a small reason.

I do not agree with statement. Public Schools have there issues but it is up to the student to be motivated to decide what they want to do with there future. Life is not fair but you can make the most of any situation by applying yourself. I went to public school and got into a great college with a scholarship and have a great job. Others did not. Why? Motivation and Determination. That is what is needed for students to make it and strive in any school they decide to go to whether it is public, private, military, etc.
Hmm...Interesting question...no easy answer, though. Personally, I feel that before high schools (or any of our public schools, for that matter) can change, our federal government needs to rethink compulsory education laws. I also think that our government needs to restructure our current educational system--- testing is not the answer. In fact, many of our standardized tests force kids into learning more abstract and complex ideas instead of the basic reading, writing, and mathematical skills that they will need just to survive in this world. Public education has become a complex arena, but I have yet to give up hope.
