I've talked to several upper people about whether the class would be too difficult for me, and they said that i should do just fine (since i am a hard worker). but i feel like the class might be too hard for me. what should i do? is it better to have a B in an accelerated class or A in a lower class? (for college)
I am not sure if i just got lazy over the summer, but we seem to be getting a lot of homework. what is your opinion? i do not want to transfer down because i like the people in my class, but i know thats not a good reason to stay
Answers:
ask yourself if you like challenging or not?
For my freshman year at college, I entered 21 units with almost all difficult classes such as Calculus, honor Biology (honor course), Macroeconomics , honor world art (honor course) , psychology, and freshman composition. We have similar situation
I mean we think in same way of the letter grade. B in hard or A in lower one? I answer it that I need A only in all classes. I like challenging. It was such a challenging in my life, seriously.
I tried my best to get A and no B in my philosophy.
***I encourage to challenge with your biology class because if you get A in that class, you will not be afraid of challenging with another class in your high school life...You may need to learn to rely on competitiveness since now if you have high aspiration of entering a good college. Well, if you try to skip this challenge now, do you think you will never meet in the future? my point is starting to challenge with your hard class now, esp. challenge with yourself, in the future, you will be a strong, motivated student.****
There is a risk, yet you need to play well with this risk of getting B. Well, let me tell you some tips for getting A
1. have good contact with your teacher. Show teacher your motivation and effort. this sometime help you from B+ to A-. whatever, A- means "A"..
2. dedicate your time studying and review...come on...read the books in the library please...but not in the crowd of people...
3. before each quiz and test, ask teacher for review...
4. To succeed in science class, you may rely on the introductory lessons. cuz science is different from history. In history, when you study about world II, you may not need the formula from World I. but in biology, you will need to understand the components of the cells before you can understand the function of the organs.
>>Fight hard with introductory lessons!
5. Less iPod, your grade may go up! just my philosophy hahaha
Important note: these tips are for motivated students only.
Last words: Do not be a loser before you fight. but try to find out how to be a winner.
Can't you sign up for a study hall class? 0 grade. pass/fail. Extra time to finish homework.
unsure if its the same as when i was in high school (graduated in 1998) but as i remember from my "accelerated" classes a B was the same GPA wise as an A in the "normal" class, only difference between the two was the expectations in the quality of your work (labs, homework, etc) in the accelerated classes but 95% of the stuff done in class were the same in both levels
At my school in AP classes we had weighted grades in which a B in an accelerated class was the equivalent to an A in a regular class so if I were you I would talk to your counselor and read your student handbook to see if that is the case.
Colleges will like you though if you stick with the AP classes.
It is much better to have an A in a lower class than a B in an accelerated one but if I were you I'd give it a little longer until you are used to being back in school and having more homework.
If it is a problem with understanding and you aren't capable of doing the work then I'd switch but if it is just the workload I wouldn't because with good planning you can adjust.
I am still in high school. I am a junior. I will tell you that it is better to have the B in the accelerated class.
Why?: Because it shows the colleges that you strive to learn more. And that you care more about pushing and challenging yourself than you do about getting straight A's the easy way.
If you honestly don't want to be there, go ahead and transfer down. Just don't wait until it's too late.
Personally i think that having a b in a higher class is better than an a in a lower class, I'm a sophomore and Ive taken all honors classes or accelerated class my freshman year and I'm doing it again this year, trust me its hard and alot of hard work but i would stick with the class unless you think you cant keep you grade above a c. but you may have to stay after school a couple of days for the teacher to go over things with you one-on-one and go over things with the other kids in your class, its probably just as hard to them! Good Luck!:)
Taking an accelerated class definitely looks better in a transcript but only if you do well in it. It would be useless to take the course and not excel but if you placed into the class it is definitely a merit to your academics. Any accelerated class will have a great deal of work but ultimately it will be challenging and a good way to prepare for college courses that offer the same rigor.
As for transferring out of the class is a decision you can only make but to aid in being successful in the class consider the following: Forming a study group with some of your classmates this will aid in homework and help you keep the fast pace. It is also a good way to study for exams. Keep an organized notebook keeping notes, labs etc in separate categories to facilitate your learning. Review your notes each day from the class to keep information fresh in your mind to avoid trying to study everything at once for a test or project-procrastination in a class of this nature will hurt you. Speak to your teacher for any additional aid she/he can provide including recommending websites.
Make sure you consider all options before dropping the class and then make a decision.
its better to have a b in advanced classes then an a in regular classes advanced classes can get u a scholarship
i would kill for advanced classes!
