Cell Phone Poll: Do think kids should have them in school?

Question:Yes or No?

Answers:
Well, yeah.

I've been stranded at school because club plans change...

Also, sometimes, they let you go home if they have a Pep Rally and that's 15 minutes to an hour early.

One time, they kept everyone in because a tornado was heading towards school, but you could use your cell to call if you wanted your parent to pick you up so you wouldn't have to wait it out, and you weren't supposed to have a cell phone, and I thought that was a bunch of crap, but now I do, so...

I think you should have it off during class time. But I think you should be able to use it between classes, during lunch, and before and after school when you're still in the building.

Oh and up above ^^, people have millions ways of cheating. They'll write answers on wrappers of water bottles and put the wrapper back on so they can look through the bottle to see the answers...

OR

A girl puts her head up to her purse while taking a test to an iPod to listen to the recorded answers or a teacher's lesson.

and btw,

It's better to just allow cell phones, because now, everyone is downloading the silent ringtone, and that gives everybody a headache. It's this screeching sound.
Absolutely not. They cause a lot of problems like cheating and intimidating teachers so they can catch videos of them being crazy.
NO
I always did even though we werent supposed to...I usually hid it under the table or went to locker area to talk if I needed to...I think they should be allowed to be used during a study hall or free time type period should the student choose but the ringers need to be turned off or at least on vibrate...I always kept mine in my pocket on vibrate during my "open" or "free" time...or in my backpack with the ringer off during class...I think its an inevitable thing...whether or not they're "allowed" wont stop kids from bringing them to school and finding ways to use them...
Yes if they're responsible. They can call their parents if they're going somewhere and can use it in case of any emergency like, say, a falling building. But if they aren't, then they shouldn't have any.
I personally believe that cellphones should be allowed. They have them at my school and it's no problem over here. They are a good way to keep in touch with people and it's good for emergencies too. As for cheating and what not, you'll get caught eventually. Kinda obvious when your head is down...
school is for learning, not talking on the phone. if someone is needed call the office. help the schools teach our children..
Absolutely...NO!
both..i mean i have mine on me all the time and i even text in class.im a very smart student so i get bored with my honors classes..so i text.(but i still make As and Bs) with that said yes i think we should be aloud to have them

but i dont think ill be using it that much this year because im going to a center based gifted program :)
My high schools policy was that we could use them between classes and at lunch. Many people texted during class (myself included). I think in some cases it can hurt the student but it didnt have any effect on me. I still graduated with honors in the top 15% of my class.
Yes.

Post-Columbine, it is hard to ban students from having them. I believe that if students have them then they must have them TURNED OFF during school hours. Also, since they are the target for theft, the schools can take NO LIABILITY for them and parents and students must acknowledge this before the students are allowed to bring them to school.
I would say no, but that would make me a hypocrite. It's kind of not fair, because not all students use their phone to cheat or disrupt the class. I only use my phone after school to call up some friends and make plans, or call up my parents if i need a ride. Honestly, i dont think you can stop kids from bringing their cell phones to school. Cell phones are just getting smaller and smaller, which makes them more easier to conceal.

With that said, I cant answer exactly yes or no. I'm in the middle for this one.
Yes.
I don't know what I would do if I didn't have my cell phone in class.
I text people.
& call people all the time.
I am still listening to the teacher.
There's no reason for them to be used in school. I think students should be allowed to have them in their locker, or purse, turned OFF (not just silent) during the school day. They should be allowed to use them after dismissal and on the bus, waiting for car pool, etc. There is absolutely no reason for a cell phone to be on during school hours. If there is an emergency, the school office has a phone students can use. If cell phones are on, they can ring, or students text each other, distracting themselves and others.

They weren't allowed in my high school, if you were caught with one it got confiscated and kept in the office until the end of the day (1st offense), if you got caught again your parent had to come pick it up. Students still used them in class to text and call, but it's very disrespectful to the teacher and other students. There is absolutely no reason that would permit a student to use one during school hours.
Kids should be allowed to bring cell phones to school. Everyone brings them at my school, even ipods and mp3 players but as long as your cell phone doesn't go off or
you aren't listening to your music player in class it's alright and we have scanners! Plus, no one uses their cell phoe 'cuz it's easy to get caught so you use notes or whisper. Plus, they're good for emergencies and when you have sports like I had track and I brought my cell phone so I could call my ride.
omg YES! how many times have you read the news about how a student used their cellphone during a shooting. they should have them off but there.
No.

In our school, cell phone is allowed and students are playing with them all they and sometimes take photos of some one without that person knowing and always SMSing. They also like to take out and show off. So it makes people who don't have a cell phone jealous and thus resulting in stealing cell phones. It is also disruptive in class. Even though there's a rule that cell phones are not allowed to on in class, students don't really care.
Yes, But keep them in their lockers for after school
