What do I need to do to become a 1st grade teacher?

Question:I have been working on my portfolio since spring quarter. And I have been adding all my awards and news articles I was fetured in. What do I do? Should I add some lessons that I know will help my future 1st graders to my portfolio? What else should I add to it?

Answers:
well, if youve got the degree to make you legal to teach it, awards and news articles will definatly make you look better, but i really do think those lesson plans could give you a little extra edge. there are specific things you have to teach a first grader, but if you find a way to do it in a fun and unique way, it could give you that little extra edge your going for. dont put anything too off the wall in there though, keep it kind of simple and not something that would be difficult to pull off.
Depending where you live, the rules will differ.
In Ontario Canada you need a degree in education.
It used to be a couple of years at Teachers College.
Now it's at least 4 years of University.
And you cannot just teach first grade;-{
you must qualify as a primary teacher,
which means K to 8 grades.
